Watandar and the Afghani food trail

The earliest Afghans in India date back to the Khilji Dynasty of the 13th century and then the Lodhi dynasty. But that is history. Afghans from Kabulistan frequented Delhi from the times of Babur's Mughal empire. Many who came in the early years have settled and seamlessly integrated with the local community. The most recent are people who have come for education, business and treatment. The main street of Saket, a short walk from the city malls, and bang opposite to the Max Hospital thus forms one of the homely abode for these travellers, complete with plays to stay and dine. The Afghani restaurants thus form the center of their cultural interactions, and discussions follow over an unlimited supply of tea.

Watandar restaurant is a cute nice place, tucked on the first floor on this street, just opposite the Max Hospital gate, and frequented by Afghanis. Even on a weekday, the place may be full, so make sure you book your table in advance.
